SEINE is a singer-songwriter project by Ivan Ščapec created in 2008 and over time
evolved into one of the most interesting regional bands of the new
generations. Started as a guitar indie-punk band, kicked out in 2017
released their acclaimed debut album Sno Sna for Moonlee Records (SI) and VOX
project (FR). With the production of the iconic Belgrade producer and author
Boris Mladenović, the group also started its long-term cooperation with
director Marina Uzelac from Pancevo, whose stopmotion video spot for
the song Šilo won numerous awards. It was followed by regional, as well as
European promotion of the record, with several longer European tours where SEINE
acquires the status of a concert attraction. Less than a year and a half after the debut album
who dealt with dreams, the band releases its second album called 22,
which is also conceptually rounded, but this time on the topic of money. IN
the production of the group's drummer, Dimitrije Petrović, is getting more and more guitars
joined by electronic sounds, and the thematic preoccupation with the intimate
moves to political. Despite its anxiety and hermeticity, the album is
well received, and this time it is portrayed by Marina Uzelac with her own
stop-motion masterpiece for the song Nebo. They just announced a new one
European tour and received a nomination for the best European independent
album IMPALA, the group had to cancel all their concert activities
due to the pandemic. Thus, they spend two pandemic years in the studio
recording his third album Naizust, performing only sporadically. Soon
the group is joined by Vatroslav Živković on bass and electronics (lit
Italy, Nemeček) as the third member of the collective. In the spring of 2022, they throw out
the announcement single Riječ, recorded in the production of Belgrade's Fikus Film, u
featuring the Belgrade bands Koi-Koi, Turisti and Jarboli.
Their third album again represents a big departure from their sound
established so far, where guitars are almost completely replaced by synths, and
drum bits. The anxiety and scream of the second album replace the whisper,
warm melodies and trip-hop rhythms, and thematic preoccupation again
finds its central motif, this time in human language and words. With that
SEINE once again persist in their unpredictability and changing sound
pictures, and establish themselves as one of the bravest and most amazing punks
bands of their generation.
